Set in the unique underground water system shaped by volcanoes in the Macaronesian islands and other European outermost regions, GENESIS tackles the urgent challenges by climate change, including droughts, floods, and the vulnerability of water infrastructure.
Through Nature-Based Solutions and geological innovation, the project will Improve underground water storage and aquifer quality, enhance water harvesting and reuse and deploy smart monitoring systems and a digital twin for better water governance.
GENESIS includes as well the involvement of society, with the implementation of living labs, training bootcamps, and a citizen science hub, for a systemic transformation toward climate resilience.
