On the 8 and 9 of October 2025, the second General Assembly of GENESIS took place in Funchal, Madeira. The meeting gathered partners from the project at Colégio dos Jesuítas, hosted by the University of Madeira. Those who were unable to attend in person had the opportunity to join online. Taking advantage of the organization of this gathering, and in order to make the most of the partners’ presence and enhance the effectiveness of the visit, we also held two additional events on different days: a Citizen Assembly and a Clustering Workshop.
During the General Assembly, leaders from the WPs who attended online and in person had the opportunity to present their achievements and most recent updates, outlining as well the upcoming activities planned for the continuation of the project. As part of the General Assembly, a field visit was organized to the Chão dos Balcões site on the afternoon of 9 October, where the Madeira demonstrators presented their NbS practices in operation.

The Citizen Assembly took place on October 7, with the objective of building mutual trust between citizens and experts. The event also served to communicate positive developments in water resource management to local communities. Communication took place through presentations, discussions, and a question-and-answer session designed to introduce the proposed implementation of GENESIS NbS (Nature-based Solutions).
With the Clustering Workshop we finished our activities in Funchal. During the event, participating projects, including SpongeBoost, Greet GEO, and Greet CE, were presented in a webinar format. Their participation provided demonstrators with new findings and data on NbS. Open discussions were also held on topics such as wastewater management and the problems and solutions related to freshwater in Macaronesia.

Thank you to everyone who contributed with your time and ideas. Let’s continue our work together to keep building GENESIS and we hope to see you on our upcoming events!
