Video Contest across Macaronesia

“Groundwater on Islands”

Lets put in a bit of context…

Groundwater is the main source of freshwater for islands like those in Macaronesia, but it’s limited and vulnerable to climate change. These regions face unique challenges due to their isolation, small-scale water providers, and limited resources for managing groundwater.

To address this, the GENESIS Video Contest invites young people to share local knowledge and innovative ideas.
The contest highlights nature-based solutions such as:

  • Native forests that help water infiltrate the ground,
  • Dry galleries and underground dams for water storage,
  • Rainwater harvesting,
  • Wetland restoration to clean and store water.

These approaches aim to protect and recharge groundwater, ensuring sustainable water use for daily life and ecosystems.
